Calving - Breaking the cycle of Johne's infection

Tue 26 Feb 2019

Irish Johne's control programme

Breaking the cycle of Johne's infection starts even before calves are born. Since large numbers of bacteria may be shed in the dung or milk of infected adult cattle, it is important to limit the exposure of calves during and immediately after birth to dung or mud which may be contaminated by MAP, the bacterium which causes Johne's disease.
